There are some things that make me really, really proud of people.
1. People I see running, especially out in the heat. My husband laughs at me, but I always do a cheer when we pass someone running. Not out the window to them or anything...I don't want them to think I'm crazy. :) I just get so proud of them whether they look they run all the time, or they look like they are running for their first time. Either way, they are working hard and I know it's tough when it's 95 degrees and humid outside!
2. People who lose a significant amount of weight in a healthy way. Again, I know how tough it is! But what really amazes me is how good it is for not just your clothes fitting better but for your health! I get so excited when I hear about people who are able to get off certain medications or they no longer have sleep apnea. I was talking to someone the other day whose mom was overweight and had type 2 diabetes. He convinced her that she had to do something about it. She began walking a little bit every day and eating healthy. Since she's lost weight and gotten healthier, she no longer has diabetes! If that doesn't get you motivated I don't know what will!
3. People who motivate others. I saw one of the most amazing things at my race in June. There was a guy, obviously a runner, jogging next to an overweight lady. I heard him encouraging her as they neared the finish line. Now that was inspiring! I loved seeing that!!
4. Some of my friends who have started running, eating healthier, exercising, etc. One of my friends recently started running and is already doing an amazing job! I can't wait to hear updates as she progresses on this journey! My friend Melissa (check out her blog here) who is on a journey of her own of living a healthy life! My best friend Katie who picked up running less than a year ago and has already done over 10 races, one being a half marathon! A friend who started running and lost 50 pounds! WOW!! I am just so proud of them!
What a day it was! Work was incredibly busy. I spent through lunch time with candidates interviewing for our 2011 internship program. Then I spent the remainder of the afternoon doing phone interviews, catching up on e-mails and checking in with managers on their positions. It was a really good day and I feel like I got a lot done. Then I headed home to my precious boy hoping he was feeling better! He was still in pain and was happy to see Mommy! He didn't nap well again today, so he went to bed early.
Phil got home "early", (7:00) so I headed to the gym to spend some much needed time with my BFF! I hadn't seen her in two weeks so we had lots to catch up on. We talked while we walked 2 miles and then ran another 3 before wrapping up with some abs. It felt great! Then I ruined it with some delicious Chinese food! :) I had grilled meat rather than fried and tried not to eat too much rice...but I know it was bad for me. Oh well...you have to splurge sometimes, right?
Gotta end with a picture of my precious boy! This is him getting his first haircut. He did so good!
